Other than riding with my husband on a Harley for many, many years I am not known as a risk taker. Until last night.
I have always been in awe of mountains, thunder and lightning. All three are magnificent works of God. I have taken many photos of mountains. I have never captured lightning even though I have tried many, many times. Snapped just a tiny spiral of lightning in New Mexico last summer.
It looked like we were going to miss out on the rain last night. The first wave moved around. Then came the second wave. I have never seen lightning so intense and constant that the sky was lit up all the way around our fair city continuously.
Momma cautioned her young girls not to go near water, stand in the doorway or under a tree, with lightning in the air. Bad things could happen. My precious Momma’s in heaven so, I stepped out on the porch. Who is gonna know? The show was amazing! Up goes my phone camera. I began a continuous snap hoping to catch just one good lightning strike. Rain was pouring and I started to give up and go in when I turned and tried one more series of snaps. That is when it happened, the thunder was immediate and loud. Nearly knocked me off the porch! Okay Momma, I got what I came for. I shall seek immediate cover.
Thought For Today:
As I stood there watching this display of magnificent power, the words from the song, “Our God is an awesome God” kept playing in my head. All through scripture we are told that God speaks to His children through His creation. Wind, hail, thunder, lightning, rivers, mountains, animals and on it goes. But this was special.
Father, was this conversation You were having with us an angry one or to showcase Your power lest we forget? I dare say that there were many, like me, in awe of Your power. A continuous electricity charged display drawing pictures in the sky with thunderous declarations to look up and the proclamation that You are still where You have been since the beginning. You are counting on your children on the earth to be reminders of who You are.
Psalms 97:4-7
4 His lightning flashes out across the world. The earth sees and trembles. 5 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. 6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness; every nation sees his glory. 7 Those who worship idols are disgraced— all who brag about their worthless gods— for every god must bow to him. (NLT)
Psalms 77:17-18
17 The clouds poured down rain; the thunder rumbled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning flashed. 18 Your thunder roared from the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world! The earth trembled and shook. (NLT)
Job 37:4-5
4 Then comes the roaring of the thunder— the tremendous voice of his majesty. He does not restrain it when he speaks. 5 God’s voice is glorious in the thunder. We can’t even imagine the greatness of his power. (NLT)
Prayer For Today:
Hello Father! Thank You for reminding us You are close by. Nothing compares to Your power and glory. Forgive us of our sins. in Jesus’ name. Amen.
