Change

Fall is the start of a resting season in our calendar year. The colors are rich and gorgeous. They don’t last long before the crisp morning temperatures begin to slow the metabolism of the trees. The leaves start to fall away to preserve energy to keep the tree alive through winter. The sap begins to recede and dormancy begins. A season of rest. A change.

Hmm…Fall does the same thing for humans. We run through Spring, Summer and early Fall with our hair on fire. Soaking up the sun, doing outside things and activities that require a lot of time and energy. Then when the weather starts to cool we begin the process of slowing down a bit. The cold temps and early nightfall move our attention inside. A time of slowing, recuperating, and resting comes to allow us time to catch up on our slow time activities. Switch gears.

God has provided a perfect hibernation for us if we will pay attention. Trim our calendars back. Allow some things to “fall off” our busy day, Rest. Earlier to bed. A time of regenerating body, soul and spirit. Change is hard to adapt to but once there, we realize a change is so good for us. A time of reflection and dormancy. A God directed “time out.”

Only one thing that does not change for the Christian…

Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. NASB

Prayer

Hello Father. Thank You for times of change and resting not only in nature but in our lives. Thank You that you restore us and prepare us with renewed energy to complete the work You have for us to do. We desire to be still and rest in Your peace. Forgive us our sins in Jesus’ name. Amen.
