I was in a line of traffic. We all saw the orange signs! “Road Closed Ahead, Detour Here.” A message that was perfectly clear. Yet three cars continued straight ahead, only to have to find a way back out. Back to the detour.
Isn’t life like that? We travel along the roads we have always traveled and suddenly something unexpected blocks our way. We are forced to change our normal course. We have trouble with that. We try to figure out a way to continue unhindered on the road that is familiar. Then we come to the end. Change is gonna happen with or without our permission. We turn back.
Our spiritual lives experience the same changes. We are traveling along, happy, healthy and suddenly we are forced to stop. A detour is required. We keep fighting to get back to that original destination until we finally stop, turn and follow God on the detour He has for us. It will not be business as usual. Changing lanes to follow the road God has prepared for us, may bring challenges of testing. There is a reason we are delayed in traffic and business as usual. God sees what is ahead. He has a reason for turning us. It may cause pain and unbelievable panic and worry but He is faithful to comfort us as we change course.
Our scripture is lengthy today, but so beautiful. I have read it several times. Our thoughts about the road we are on may not be God’s. Nothing happens in our life that does not produce either good or bad results. God desires good results from our choices. He will take the wheel and detour us. He will lead us forth in peace. He will accomplish His desire for our lives. That detour you are experiencing? It could eventually be your testimony that will lead someone to the saving grace of Jesus.
Be ready and watch for the signs. Be willing to follow God as He detours you to the blessings that await you…just around the corner. There may be bumps in the road, but not one of them do we roll through without God and His warrior angels.
~Scripture For Today~
Isaiah 55:9-13
9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts. 10 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; 11 So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. 12 “For you will go out with joy And be led forth with peace; The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, And all the trees of the field will clap their hands. 13 “Instead of the thorn bush the cypress will come up, And instead of the nettle the myrtle will come up, And it will be a memorial to the Lord, For an everlasting sign which will not be cut off.” (NASB)
~Prayer For Today~
Hello Father! It is the detours from what we know as normal, that cause us stress. Change is not easy for us. We pray we follow Your lead. Follow You, even though the detour is unnerving and inconvienent. Help us make that turn and follow You to a testimony of faith. Your ways are not our ways and Your thoughts are not our thoughts. Father, we do know one thing for sure. Following Your lead will never end in the wrong place. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
