Find A Safe Place

Clouds are forming again tonight. We prayed for rain for several years. Drought was a serious problem. Our prayers were  answered. It has rained, and rained, and rained. We are saturated. The soil cannot absorb any more rain. We now are at the edge of a flooding crisis. Playa lakes are everywhere.

We have had continuous lightning and thunder the last few nights, and it comes again tonight. Rumbling in the distance. Forewarning us to exercise caution.  The waters will stall cars out. Basements will flood. Get home. Find a safe place. Wait it out. Seek shelter.

~Thought For Today~

Pondering over another night of rumbling thunder and continuous lightning. Storms are like that. They get blustery and loud and quite invasive. Life storms are very similar. We can have a season of drought when the rain does not fall on our parade. No cloudy days. Only sunshine and moonbeams. Then without warning, the rumble begins in the distance. Trouble is on the horizon.

We do the same thing for our life storms as we do when nature brings rain, hail, high winds and rolling thunder. We seek shelter. Get close to home. Find a safe place. Wait it out. Pray it out.

My safe place is in the quiet of the night. My comfy chair. My Bible, pen and paper. When trouble starts to swell we want shelter. I used to try to weather the life storms by myself. For about fifty-one years, to be exact. Didn’t always work well. Left me with some damage. Damage that took years to repair. Somewhere around that fifty-first year I started seeking. I needed help with the repair work that was gonna be needed. I discovered something.

I had an agent that I did not call on. He could assure me that though storms would come, He would be there in the storm with me. He would not leave me to fend for myself. No 800 numbers to call when the storm ceased and it was time to appraise the damage. Nope, He said He would be there present in the storm. He was and He continues. When disappointment comes. When discouragement comes. When failure is imminent. When bravery is required. When people let us down.  He is there. When sadness visits. When tears fall. When the storm seems to have no end. He is there.

He prefers that we stay so close to Him on the sunny days that we don’t even have to wonder where He is when the clouds start to form. Daily contact with Him is what He desires. In fact, He desires to be our shade on the days when heat bears down on us. He desires to be our shelter. Our high tower of safety.

His name is Jesus. There is no charge for His help. In fact, He paid the price required. All we have to do is take up our cross and follow Him. Seek Him. He is so easy to get in touch with. He will walk us through whatever comes our way. We never walk alone.

~Scriptures For Today~

Matthew 8:24-25

24  They came to Jesus and woke Him up, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm. 25 And He said to them, “Where is your faith?” They were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?” (NASB)

Psalms 17:6-8

6  I have called upon You, for You will answer me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech. 7 Wondrously show Your lovingkindness, O Savior of those who take refuge at Your right hand From those who rise up against them. 8 Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me in the shadow of Your wings. (NASB)

Isaiah 41:10

10  ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ (NASB)

~Prayer For Today~

Hello Father! You are our place of safety from the storms. Our high tower. Our shade against the heat. We pray that we stay close to You daily so that we can stand firm in the storms, as they come. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
