David was a warrior. He had the spirit of a warrior. Many of his Psalms focus on those who came to destroy him. He did not mince words. He was not politically correct. His mouth declared what his heart believed to be true. We know he sinned. He was an accessory to murder because of an adulterous affair. He gave a command to a soldier in his army, that would make him an unsuspecting partner in his sin of murder.
King David had problems to overcome. He knew sin, he knew war. He knew about enemies and he certainly knew about evil. He called out to God to forgive him when he was wrong. He cried out to God from caves running and hiding from those who wanted him dead. But, his praise and worship is what stands out. He knew how to praise God and be in a state of thanksgiving, no matter what circumstance He found himself in.
~Thought For Today~
We can learn from this warrior for God to be unafraid to speak God’s word. To be unafraid to voice our thanksgiving to the tops of the highest mountains and to trust God. To rise above the voices of evil as flourishing palm trees. Evil rears its head and appears to be winning but as David came to understand…God’s thoughts are very deep. Evil will rise only so that it might be destroyed forevermore. In the fight between good and evil, God always win.
One last thought. As we get older and the joints ache and the pace is a bit slower than in our youth, we still have value. Though we have scars of the Goliath battles of life, we also have victories. God revealed to David that those who are planted in the house of God will flourish. They will continue to yield fruit in their old age. We will have a voice of experience to our young. Things may look bleak. The winds may blow and bend our branches near to the breaking point. But, even then, we can be thankful and confident that God never leaves us and will cause those who believe to flourish. If you need encouragement this morning, read Psalm 92 in its entirety. Wise words from King David.
~Scripture For Today~
Psalms 92:5-8
5 How great are Your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep. 6 A senseless man has no knowledge, Nor does a stupid man understand this: 7 That when the wicked sprouted up like grass And all who did iniquity flourished, It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore. 8 But You, O Lord, are on high forever. (NLT)
Psalms 92:12-14
12 The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Planted in the house of the Lord, They will flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They will still yield fruit in old age; They shall be full of sap and very green, 15 To declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him. (NLT)
~Prayer For Today~
Hello Father! Sometimes we need to be reminded that even in our struggles with a sinful evil world, You are still standing, still victorious in all the battles. Thank You for loving us, for blessing us in all stages of our life. The life that lives for You will be blessed, even in the storms and hardships that come. Especially then, are You close. We pray that we keep our eyes on You and that we always are willing to tell our young ones how great are Your works in the lives of those who live for You. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
