“Is any pleasure on earth as great as a circle of Christian friends by a good fire?”
C.S. Lewis
I have been fairly independent most of my life. Trust was something I lost at a very young age. Most of my life has been lived very cautiously and close. Don’t we often do that? Protect our hearts? Better to be cautious than feel pain at loss or betrayal in friendships. I have had some wonderful people cross my path in life that I consider dear friends.
I just sat down and had a meal with two women tonight. It was not a fireside chat exactly. The only fire was the jalapeño in the food. But it was a warm, good visit. We have been through life together these two women and I. Most of our journey rings with laughter, some with tears and a small window of incredible sorrow. We have built a spiritual sisterhood. Though circumstances moved us apart there is still the tie that binds.
Thought For Today:
As iron sharpens iron to its best. Likewise, friends bring sharpness, beauty, wisdom and laughter to our lives as well. It is not the number of friends, it is the quality of those you are blessed to have. Seek out those God is preparing for you. He knows who will enhance your life. Who will lead you closer to Him, instead of away.
Our fellowship tonight has bolstered us for another spell of time until we will meet again. It is the kind of friendship that can go periods of time without talking or seeing each other and yet when once we meet again it is as though time has stood still. Find those that will sharpen you, bring the best of you to the forefront. Those are the kind that last a lifetime. Their prayers for you will bring God singing over your life.
Scripture For Today:
Proverbs 27:17
Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. (NLT)
Prayer For Today:
Hello Father! Thank You for our beloved friends. They enhance our life with all that is good. We see Your reflection and the grace of Jesus in their faces. Make Your face to shine upon them and bring them peace. Forgive us our sins in Jesus’ name. Amen.
