I am late meeting my self imposed deadline for today. One daughter and family have come to visit. They will pack up our granddaughter who is returning home for work and school in the fall. We are missing our other daughter and family. Though they are not with us, they are continually in our thoughts and missed so much. PaPa and I are going to have to make a road trip to the south, and soon.
We have been so blessed with rain throughout the night and until just moments ago. So blessed. I took our Harley out to “visit” the yard. I was wading in water, an umbrella over my head when lightning and hail began. Dog and caretaker ran for cover. Even though everything is floating, we are so blessed! God is so good to us!!
As I wrote that, I was thinking about my wise father-in-law. He was a farmer, a very wise and productive farmer. He was son, husband, father, granddaddy, GiPa and friend to many. He would often clasp his hands together in this special way, and with a smile he would proclaim that “God is so good to us!”
He is in heaven now. But his words stay with all of us. Those too young to remember him, will learn as they grow, about him and his love for family and honor of God. God was the centering factor in his life. We all miss him and his wisdom and those farmer’s hands, that proclaimed often, lest we forget, “God is so good to us!”
~Thought For Today~
We have needed rain for so long. Though it gives pause when the yard appears to be “floating” how can we ever be guilty of saying it is too much. We have gone too long without it for it to be too much now. We pray and pray for rain and then when it comes we pray for it to stop. I suppose the better prayer would be, whatever Your will is in regard to rain, let it be so.
Life can be heartbreaking and difficult at times. But when God is the center, when we seek His will…goodness, always comes. It may come through darkened clouds with ferocious lightning and thunder, or through the beauty of a sunrise coursing its way over us throughout the day, to the beauty of end of day sunsets. Whatever, the situation, He is always there. He is always good.
Make no mistake that He is also, Father God. A father worth his salt will discipline his children. It has taken me many years to understand that there is a difference between discipline and punishment. When God is our Father, He will discipline us. Discipline us and train us up in the way we should walk, so we can withstand the punishment that comes from an evil and broken world.
So, whatever condition this day finds each of us in, if God is our Father, then He has His eye on us and angels ready to carry out His will for our lives. Whether it is a good day or a day of trials and difficult circumstances, we can say with assurance, “God is so good to us!”
