Looking out at the beautiful snow this morning. Amazing beauty! God calls His creation good. What does He call us? What names define who we are?
As a young child I remember hearing conversation about “Holy Rollers.” It seemed that it was definitely not a name I should desire to be called. Exactly what is the definition of a Holy Roller and who does God, say we are? You, are very special.
One definition for Holy Roller is: A member of a religion that epresses ecstatic fervor. Check. So what is ecstatic? Overwhelming happiness or joyful excitement. Check. And fervor? Intense and psssionate feeling. Check. So dear friends, do you find that your relationship with Jesus Christ brings you overhelming happiness, joyful excitment with intense passionate feelings for the Son of God? Society may refer to you as a Holy Roller. Before you slink back and make a frowny face and wince, let’s talk.
The world and the enemy want us to believe that there is something wrong about fervent joy and worship of our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. They would rather we be quiet. Have you ever been in a group of people and the minute you say the name Jesus, you get those “rolled eyes.” A here’s your sign moment. They are possibly thinking the “Holy Roller” has shown up? Here are a few things God calls you that just might make you a little bolder and prouder to be placed in that category.
If we are believers in Christ He calls us: Child (John 1:12), Forgiven (Eph 1:7), Chosen (Eph 1:4), New Creature (2 Cor 5:17), Redeemed (Rom 3:24), Friend (John 15:15), Crucified with Christ (Rom 6:6), Free (Rom 8:2), Temple (1 Cor 6:19), Heir (Rom 8:17), Sealed (Eph 1:13), Alive in Christ (Eph 2:4-5), Bold (Eph 3:12), Citizen of Heaven (Phil 3:20), God’s Workmanship (Eph 2:10), Light (Eph 5:8), Complete (Col 2:10) and Beloved (Rom 9:25). There are many more. Isn’t it the desire of every believer to be hopeful that ALL can be called those beautiful names in Christ? If you know Jesus, then you know that sharing Him is part of our responsibility. that all will come to know Him.
Thought For Today:
In light of all that we are in Christ, dare anyone wonder why we would express ecstatic fervor? Can the term “Holy Roller” ever be an offensive reference to a believer in Christ.
I searched for a scripture that calls the believer a “Holy Roller.” I did not find it. Would be interested if you find one. I believe it is truly a secular name placed upon believers. Though it is generally not meant to be complimentary, I take no offense in it. To the contrary, the closer I get to Jesus the more reasons I find to be overwhelmed with happiness and joyful excitement. The multitude of names God calls His children are the very reasons we can proudly be referred to as “Holy Rollers.”
Scripture For Today:
Romans 9:25
25 As He says also in Hosea: “I will call them My people, who were not My people, And her beloved, who was not beloved.” (NKJ)
Prayer For Today:
Hello Father! Sometimes we let the culture tell us who we are. You, Father, it is You, who defines who we are. A Father who speaks goodness over His children and calls us by name. Beautiful names. We are royalty. Beloved children of the God who created all things. No matter what we experience in life, we pray we keep the treasure of who we are to You, upmost and ever prsent in our minds. The sheep hear the voice of the Shepherd calling them to come and find love, forgiveness, mercy, grace and rest. Forgive us our sins. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
