Hoodwinked?

I made note in my Bible beside today’s scripture on October 3, 2005. Then I passed that way again May 31, 2006, December 1, 2007 and today, eight years later. Do you suppose My Heavenly Father is trying to get my attention? Alert me about something?

Our country has changed tremendously since 2005. Some changes have been extremely hard to watch and many are bordering on insanity. That word is defined as extreme foolishness or irrationality. Stupidity and lunacy are synonyms and clearly describe what I have observed of late. But, we have been forewarned by our Father in heaven that a day was coming. I am not an authority, but that day seems very close.

What are we to do? We have already determined fear is not an option for believers. God declares throughout His word, “fear not.” He means that.

This scripture was brought to my attention once again this morning, during our Bible study. My favorite place to be on Wednesday mornings. Paul is giving some advice. Advice that seems to fit perfectly in our time. Do not be led astray by empty philosophy and high sounding nonsense or deception. We now have an abundance of that! Oddly and quite telling is the word led. The form of that word that caught my attention was the intransitive verb, lead. Example, lead one up or down the garden path. Or, especially interesting,  to hoodwink or deceive.

That dear ones, is what Paul is trying to get us to pay attention to. It is not philosophy that is bad or human thinking. It is making humanity and high minded thinking the answer for all of our problems and not Christ. Listening to deceivers. The “evil powers” of the world want us to listen to babble about who is going to help us, how to let the powers that be, protect us, prosper us and/or hold us in poverty. Humanity to tell us how to live and what is good for us. Putting trust in all that big talk and ideology instead of listening to God and putting Christ first.

We are only complete in Christ. It is His voice, the voice of our Shepherd, we should be listening to. If anyone or any idea leaves Christ out of the equation, then those are people and ideas we should run from. We are deceived if we believe anyone or anything is before Christ.

We are to think with the mind God gave each of us. Study His word and receive His Son, Jesus, as Savior. He is our leader.  We will never be hoodwinked or deceived by seeking Him for our answers. Finally, He will never lead us astray.

Scripture For Today:

Colossians 2:8-9

8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.  9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10 and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority (NASB)

Prayer For Today:

Hello Father! We have a good bit of interference right now. There are many voices calling. We pray for the ears that hear the Shepherd and the whisper to walk in this way. Protect us from those who have chosen paths of leadership that do not include Christ at the center. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
