King’s Table

Just listened to a study from 2 Samuel where King David seeks out the last living heir of his great enemy. Mephibosheth, the son of David’s beloved friend Jonathan and grandson of his enemy, King Saul. Both feet crippled since five years old. Injured while fleeing from certain death as his father and grandfather died on the same day in battle. His life has been nothing but misery, pain and loneliness. Not unlike what we have all experienced at some point in our own lives.

King David finds him and brings him to the King’s table and gives him land and turns his life around with mercy and grace. Sound familiar? Adam fell, with help from Eve, (those who know me well, know I have thoughts about that) causing humanity to be cast out of paradise into a world of difficulty, but he then provided a way to bring us back to the Kings table. That way is Jesus. We are all scarred and disfigured in some way, yet when we sit down at the King’s table as did Mephibosheth, who put his crippled feet “under” the table, we are welcomed with mercy and grace.

No matter who we are, what we have done, who we have disappointed, we all look the same at that table. Our “crippled life” is under the table, covered. God sees Jesus and His blood covering us…He does not see our sins.

The enemy wants you to believe that what you have done cannot be forgiven and you could never sit at the Kings table. He is a liar! Study for yourself. 2 Samuel 9:3-13.

SCRIPTURE

The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. Psalm103:8-13 NLT

PRAYER

Hello Father, thank you for your mercy and grace. Though we disappoint, as your children you deal with us as a good father to his child. You cast our sins far from us and guide us to continue on our journey with you. You don’t remind us of our past. You remind us that we have a place at your table. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
