Look Up!

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area  Hill Country of Texas

I ran some errands today. As I was driving I began to watch the cars around me. All seem to be rushing somewhere. Some risking a good day by lane switching, dangerously. No patience with their fellow citizens. Just push, push, pushing their way through the traffic. Seems everyone is on what resembles a NASCAR race. I actually saw fists strike the steering wheel because the car in front of them was not moving as fast as the car tailgating desired.

Have we stopped taking the time to be still? Be calm? Watch? Listen? Peacefully drive to work. Start a bit earlier to work in the morning. Watch the sun rise. Drive out to the edge of the city in the evening and watch the sun course its way below the horizon. Find a place in the country away from the city and look up! Amazing the stars that are shining down on us every night. Our cities are so lit up with light that we cannot see the night lights God provided that fourth day,  when He set the lights in the heavens. Scripture says He has named each star. Not one of them is missing.

~Thought For Today~

Sadly. we have turned our worship for God, into worship of other things. Scripture calls them idols. What are our idols today? Could we be the idols we worship? Seems we are all into self portraits, worshipping our own image. Have we made money an idol? We seek after material things at the cost of most everything else. Is our job an idol? We put blood, sweat and tears into our workplace. Our jobs can become idols. So many diversions directing our attention and worship away from God.

A challenge. Find out what time the sun will rise tomorrow. If it is a work day, get up early enough to get ready and still see the sun rise from the horizon. Take coffee in your favorite cup, a lawn chair, if time allows, and go to the edge of town where you can get a clear unobstructed view. If the morning is out of question, go out at the end of the day and watch the daylight recede into darkness as the sun slowly goes out of sight. Then, look up! There are billions of stars, peering down upon us. They are a magnificent creation of a God who longs to see our faces, looking up, worshipping Him and Him only.

 ~Scripture For Today~

Genesis 1:14-19

14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. 17 God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. 19 There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day. (NASB)

Isaiah 40:26

26 Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, Not one of them is missing. (NASB)

Psalms 65:8

8 They who dwell in the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs; You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy. (NASB)

~Prayer For Today~

Hello Father! Forgive us for putting so much ahead of You. We pray for a desire to stop and look up in awe, at the beauty You have created for our enjoyment. Forgive us for the idols that we allow to replace our worship of You. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
