Making Time For Rest

It has been a good week. A very busy week. When the sun comes up in a few hours it will officially be Saturday. There will be some things that need attention. Normal Saturday chores. There seems to be no end to those opportunities. Hopefully, we will all find time to do something relaxing, like…nothing.

It is in the stillness of quiet time that we are most apt to revive our tired minds and bodies.

We run to and fro all week. Racing to Friday evening. If we are not careful, we will fill our weekends with more things to distract us and take us from a peaceful quiet time.  We will have added more burden.

God knew that we were going to be a “driven” people. People with goals to reach. Places to go. People to see. He knew that if left to ourselves, we would have issues with too much running and not enough rest. Burn out and frustration comes to the life with too little rest.

In His divine wisdom, God asked that we set one day aside for rest. A Sabbath Day. A Sabbath Day is any day that we can change our pace. Slow down. Breathe. Stop and smell the roses. Listen. Listen for the still voice of God. A spirit of rest. Silent from a busy world. Calm. Restoration.

Find your quiet place today. Make time for rest.

Scripture For Today:

Mark 6:30-32

30 The apostles *gathered together with Jesus; and they reported to Him all that they had done and taught. 31 And He *said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.” (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.) 32 They went away in the boat to a secluded place by themselves. (NASB)

Matthew 11:28-29

28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (NASB)

Hebrews 4:9

9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. (NASB)

Prayer For Today:

Hello Father! We made it through a week of work and in some cases a trial or two. We pray we are able to set aside time to be still and rest. Rest in You. Restore our energy and prepare ourselves for what You have for us in the week coming up. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
