Was there a bit of sadness when you woke this morning? Seems odd that a season with so much to do and prepare for, can leave a tinge of sadness behind when it is over. Families go back to the normal routine, school begins again, work starts up immediately. A lot of catching up what was left behind on desks as the holiday began.
The memories of those we were missing at our tables will fall back just a bit into that special place we hold them. Christmas is a memorial to Jesus and to those we loved who now reside with Him.
I find myself sitting at the table plotting how and when to bring down the tree and put away the lights. The process makes me a bit melancholy. Children and grandchildren will go back to their lives. Very quiet. Instead of two dogs romping throught the house…well, actually the young dog was romping…the old Harley did a lot of growling. Too old to play like he once did. But even he is missing the excitement.
That must be what makes it such a special time. The Father brings us to a season of rejoicing and lays our blessings before us. He knows what He is doing, doesn’t He? All the frantic preparation, eating, talking about the past memories brings a peace to our souls that the world cannot give us. It is a breather from the issues of the world.
We are just about to end this year. Time to think how we can make the New Year better, change some old habits and make some new promises. But, we are not quite there yet.
So let us just keep our mind on Jesus and soak up the peace and light this season of Christmas has brought us. We still have time to take down the tree and put things away…later. Let’s just remember for now…
Scripture For The Day:
Isaiah 26:3
You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You. (NKJV)
Prayer For Today:
Hello Father! Oh what a blessing we have with Jesus in our lives. He brings the peace we desire. Calm our spirits, bring to our minds the sweet moments from this past month. Prepare in us a desire to begin anew with You as the Director of our lives going forward. Forgive us our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
