A direction for our steps. Steps thought out with God’s words in mind. We take a lot of steps in a day. We encounter many situations. The psalmist is asking for direction that he might not sin or fall into ways that we know are not ordered by our Heavenly Father. He is asking for help to keep him not only from sin borne from within but also the evil that could come to him from without.
Thought For Today:
We each carry the nature prone to sin from our first parents and the “garden event.” Trying to walk firmly in ordered steps can be a challenge. Temptation to do exactly opposite of what we know God would have us do, is present every day. There is also a need to watch where we walk physically. Evil abounds and is not a respecter of persons. Our challenge today is different from any other time in our life. Perhaps a goal to walk steps of courage, armored with the things God has given to defend us both spiritually and physically is a wise request. Be strong dear friend. Take hold of your faith, pray for courage to stand for the things that are good.
The Message version of this scripture and the verses just before and right after:
Psalm 129-136 Every word you give me is a miracle word—
how could I help but obey?
Break open your words, let the light shine out,
let ordinary people see the meaning.
Mouth open and panting,
I wanted your commands more than anything.
Turn my way, look kindly on me,
as you always do to those who personally love you.
Steady my steps with your Word of promise
so nothing malign gets the better of me.
Rescue me from the grip of bad men and women
so I can live life your way.
Smile on me, your servant;
teach me the right way to live.
I cry rivers of tears
because nobody’s living by your book!
Scripture For Today:
Psalm 119:133
133 Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me. (NKJV)
133 Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil. (NLT)
Prayer For Today:
Hello Father! It is comforting to know that You desire to guide our steps. We pray that we walk according to Your will. We pray that take steps in obedience, love, compassion, forgiveness and peace. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
