My generation started out slowly but soon got on the fast track. Fast food. Fast speeds traveling down the highway. Fast answers from the internet to just about any question we might have. All that trained me to do is not wait well. I got used to a fast response.
Fast is often a tool of our enemy. If he can get us to move fast we zoom to a mistake without waiting on our Father’s plan. The strategy of satan is to move us quickly away from trusting what God has promised He will do.
Had Adam and Eve waited until God’s daily walk in the garden before listening to the fast talking visitor of evil, we would not be living through illness, brokenness, anxiety, fear and anguish. We would never have experienced death and disease. Cain and Abel would not have been in conflict. Joseph would have never been sold into slavery and sent to prison. David would never have moved far to quickly into the life of Bathsheba and Uriah.
When circumstances visit us that require waiting, we don’t do well. We want answers. Now! Waiting for them brings anxiety and stress. The waiting causes too much time to create scenarios in our head. Most generally, the worst case scenarios.
For the believer in Jesus Christ we are assured that what concerns us also concerns him. When illness comes with unexplained symptoms. When doctors are baffled and we are delayed time and again as the symptoms and the crisis still weigh heavy on us. When our relationships are broken and the long days bring sadness. When our loved ones leave us and sorrow comes calling…Our stress and anxiety can press in and disrupt our days. Is that what our Father in Heaven wants for us? I don’t think it is.
I wonder…He knows our future. He knows our situation. He knows our outcome. He knows it all and since we are to trust Him we should be able to say with great confidence that Our Father Knows Best. That He is in control of everything pertaining to our situation. His delays happen for a reason known only to Him. We trust Him, the Son and the Holy Spirit to guide us through the delays to victory and resolutions.
So let us find peace, be still and wait for Him to work things out. Have faith and trust that we will see the doctors who can help us best; that our brokenness will heal; the answers will come even though delay comes in our stormy time. And that we will remember that He is the eye in the storm. He is looking out for our best interest in all things. Our Father does indeed know best.
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Prayer
Hello Father, Thank you that You have our lives in Your mighty hands. Help us to wait patiently on You. Keep us from rushing ahead of You. Give us peace as we wait on Your perfect timing. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
