Our Lighthouse

We live in troubled times. Sometimes it is difficult to stay focused. It can cause us to lose sleep. While pacing back and forth all night, did you ever wonder if the Master was sleeping while you wrestled till morning? I think we may have all thought that at one time or another.

Jesus got in the boat with some of His disciples. It was the end of a long day of teaching. He selected the stern of the boat and a cushion for His bed and promptly went to sleep. Scripture says a fierce gale of wind rose, causing the waves to crash over the sides of the boat. Still Jesus slept. The disciples with Him had to wake Him! He was sleeping through the storm. They should have slept too, but they were watching the storm. They were worrying!

They woke Him up and asked, “Do You not care that we are perishing?”  Three words from the Master…”Hush, be still.” It was over. Calm again. Can’t we see ourselves in that boat? Thrashing around, overcome by high waves of pain and fear. Lord! Do You care nothing about me? Why are You sleeping? I am being hit from all sides with problems and You sleep.

~Thought For Today~

Jesus was sleeping peacefully midst the storm. So deep in sleep that he had to be awakened by those with Him. Perhaps He was able to sleep because He knew the One who never slumbers nor sleeps, held Him secure.

He is able to sleep not from a lack of concern but an abundance of security.

Our God stands watching over us like a lighthouse at the shores edge. His eye is always on us. Because He never sleeps, we can. In fact, I imagine that He prefers that we give up and sleep so He can get on with the resolution of our problems without our input and interference.

The Shepherd guards His flock night and day. Having that assurance gives us peace to sleep and sleep well.

~Scripture For Today~

Mark 4:36-39

36  Leaving the crowd, they *took Him along with them in the boat, just as He was; and other boats were with Him. 37  And there *arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up. 38  Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they *woke Him and *said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” 39  And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm. (NASB)

Psalms 121:3-4

3  He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep. (NASB)

~Prayer For Today~

Hello Father! We need peace midst the storms. We pray for rest to come and allow us to be revived for a new day. Thank You Father that You never sleep nor slumber. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
