Have you ever gone through a defeated stage of life? You just get so far down that it would seem nothing could ever lift you back up again? Nothing helps. Not friends. Not shopping. Not chocolate. Not even chocolate! You set goals for yourself and hit one brick wall after another. I have been there before and I suspect you have to. We all experience a time when we just cannot get things to run smooth. The feeling of defeat is not a good one. We feel that we are drowning in failure.
There have been times when victorious would not be an accurate description of my life. God knew that once our first parents disobeyed Him, we were gonna pass through some things in life that would try us. Cause us to worry. Cause us to fear. Cause us to be incredibly sad.
His remedy? Send someone who could live in us that would be greater than all the darkness of the world. He sent Jesus. The great overcomer.
Our scripture for today is so fitting for what is going on in the world. Many voices do not confess Jesus. Those voices are world voices. They test our faith. They attempt to bring doubt. They attempt to make followers of Christ appear stupid. Hoodwinked, if you will. But even as they speak we have already defeated them. The key word is attempt. They can try all they like but we are able to overcome because of that awesome armor we put on everyday. The world and our enemy do not understand the heart of a forgiven believer.
There is a truth that we understand. Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world! That is great news. Jesus is a overcomer! That means we are too. Our enemies are His and His are ours. It is a divine partnership of overcoming evil.
Merriam-Webster defines overcome as defeating something or someone; to gain control; to get the better of; to overwhelm.
~Thought For Today~
Believers have nothing to whine about. Things might not look too good today, but that is exactly what he who is in the world wants you to see. But he is on the outside. He desires that we fail. That our attempts to overcome issues in our life fail and fail miserably. When we know Jesus, He is in us. His strength is our strength. His power to overcome is our power. We are not weaklings who have no hope. Even on our worst day, we can say boldly that greater is our Jesus Christ than anything that we are gonna come up against. Because He overcame we can too.
~Scripture For Today~
1 John 4:2-5
2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. 4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 5 They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. (NASB)
Revelations 3:21
21 He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. (NASB)
~Prayer For Today~
Hello Father! Our most holy God! We thank You for Jesus. He forgives us of our sins. He is our strength when we feel weak. He is our courage when the battlefield ahead, seems to be an appointment with defeat. Because Jesus overcame, we can do likewise. We are strong in Him! Yes! Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
