Pause

Been away from writing for a spell. Just so much going on in the lives of people that I love and their families; our country and this chaotic world. Sometimes we just need to step back and pause. Be still and give our Father God a chance to get a word in. We are all familiar with the verse of scripture about being still. (Psalm 46:10) Easy to say but sometimes very difficult to do. Especially, when sickness has overwhelmed a friend. When the long struggle for the spouse of a friend ends in transition to heaven. It is hard to be still in those struggles. We are in urgent prayer closet events for help to come. But…Perhaps it is the quiet from the urgency of need, fear, and anxiety that God desires.

I wonder. We are so set on what we feel the answer should be that we don’t stop to think. Is God’s will what I am praying for? Or am I trying to beg Him into making my will be His. I have heard it said that He hears what we cannot hear, sees what we cannot see and knows what we cannot know. His will is going to always be the best. He loves us and those we lift in prayer. He knows what lays ahead.

Selah appears seventy-one times in the Psalms of the Hebrew Bible. It has been interpreted several ways. Perhaps it means a break in the singing; or forever; or a pause to contemplate. I like the idea of a pause to really study the words preceding it. Really, pause and think over the inspired words of our God.

We live in a fast society. Fast food, fast cars, fast access to every need we have. Perhaps, we are trying to get our God to join the fast pace of our life when He desires that we pause and listen for His wisdom, His love, His desire and His answers.

Psalm 32:4

For day and night your hand was heavy upon me. My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah. NKJV

Psalm 32:7

You are my hiding place: You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah. NKJV

Psalm 61:4

I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah. NKJV

Prayer

Hello Father, We praise Your holy name for who You are. We pray for the pause in our prayer and study time to hear Your voice. For patience to wait on You and the peace in our hearts that Your will has a knowledge that we don’t. That You are working all things out in Your will. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

  1. This is so true. We hurry to do everything now days and most of the time do not realize what has been done. Time to slow down and give God time to lead us His way.

    1. Hi Paulette, You are so right. Time to slow down and listen and give the Holy Spirit a chance to lead. Thank you for stopping here.
