Peace In The “I” of The Storm

I certainly am not the only one stunned by what I see happening to my beloved country and the world. We are under siege from every direction and now we have cyber attacks and threats of terror against the movie industry in our country? What? Today’s news alone has just about done me in! How do we stay peaceful in the storms of evil that are occurring worldwide and the storms within our own lives that seem to spin everything out of control?

In a tornado the “eye” is completely still. Birds are not chirping, the wind stops…there is nothing that matches the quiet of the “eye” of a tornado. I experienced a tornado that went over our home in 1971.  It was God’s grace that it did not touch the ground. The peace in the “eye” is  unbelievable, had I not experienced it myself. We need peace like that Father! Now today!

Stop Kate!! It is a WWJD moment for me.  Jesus would sit and be still and wait on instruction from His Father.  So, I sit and wait for my Shepherd to lift me off the ledge. Here is what I found in God’s word. A little time in Bible study a day keeps my mind from blowing up over what I not only see happening all over the world but most importantly what is happening in our homeland and in our own lives.   Chaos and unrest seems to prevail.

Okay Father, I sit and I wait. I am not the only one who feels this way.  We have questions. What have You for us today?

Why are there people who desire to harm innocent people? Jesus knew about them. His response?

John 8:44

44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. (NKJV)

God has made known some things he despises.

Proverbs 6:16-19

16 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren. (NKJV)

We have to ask ourselves what we have made priority in our country or our own lives that has taken first place over God. He will not be mocked nor will he tolerate idol worship or anything that takes His place. Our land needs healing. God desires good for our land, our children and our children’s children. The remedy?

2 Chronicle 7:14

14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. (NKJV)

We can watch news all day long and become anxious and upset when we actually cannot control the actions of others like we discipline our children for misbéhaving. Where do we seek refuge? Where do we take cover in the storms that invade our lives?

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. (NKJV)

Can we trust our politicians, world leaders, the news media? Can we look to them to bring peace to us? We can only find trust and peace from one source. It is standing in the “I” of the storms, with our “eyes” on Jesus, that peace resides.

John 16:33

33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (NKJV)

But Father, what about terror and unrest in every corner of the world including our own! We need help!

Psalm 91:5

5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, 6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. 7 a thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. 8 Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked. (NKJV)

Ok, Father, I am seeing that You and only You will make all this right in time. It will be in Your time. Father, we try not to pray for patience as that sometimes brings things upon us…to teach that very thing. So, be still and prayerful?

Isaiah 58:11

11 The LORD will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. (NKJV)

Thought For Today:

As believers we have our marching orders for battle. He desires that we gird ourselves with His armor, that we learn to discern what we hear and are told for its truth, understand that not all of humanity calls Him Father, be diligent in prayer without ceasing and most important…stay close to Him in thought, word and deed. Reside in and with the “I” of the storms we encounter. We can wait on You Father. It is not our battle, it is Yours.

Prayer For Today:

Hello Father! Thank You for Your word. We desire to take refuge with You, go about our days doing Your will, and yet be watchful that we do not fall for the ways of this world. We pray for discernment to distinguish what is good and what is evil. Father, I pray that You comfort all those who grieve tonight. Please protect those who are carrying Your word into dangerous territory. Father, we pray that You hold us in the “I” of Your peace. We pray for our country. Forgive us as we have strayed like sheep who have lost sight of our Shepherd. What is good is now bad and what is bad is deemed good.  Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
