Peace in the Storm

Ever once in awhile a series of things happen that bring God’s spirit so close to us that we can feel His breath. Maybe the birth of a baby, a family wedding, or a sweet family reunion overwhelms us with the love of God showering us and those we love with favor. Or the walk through trials with a loved one or friend when your prayers are daily for their healing.

I think back in time over a year ago now. Two friends and I were blessed to visit two very special sisters. They both had been in at least nine months of a battle. The protocol for engaging this battle was chemo. The remedy caused severe complications that set this Jesus Girl and her family on a whirlwind, hurricane, tornado style battle that they never expected or desired. Baby sister moved in to help her sister and brother-in-law. In the days after she discharged home they had adapted to all the challenges that the battle brought. Learning to transfer from wheelchair to bed; learning to eat and feed herself once again; learning to wheel herself through her home, home health visits and physical therapy. Sessions of Bible study talks and Christian music to take their minds briefly from the trial to God’s grace. This family met the challenges head on.

Did I mention this Jesus Girl was a hardworking employee who began every early morning studying God’s word and talking with Him before traveling in heavy traffic to her workplace? That was her daily time with Jesus.

This event changed the lives of all who loved her in very serious ways. Though the prayers of many warriors were lifted daily for a miracle healing…God’s answer came. It was the heartbreaking answer that we have all too often received through the trials of life. Not today. You dear ones have prayed for My best for this child of Mine. I am going to whisk her away from the trials of this life into my loving care. And so, we released her to live eternally with Jesus confident we will meet again.

We all learned from her walk through the storm to eternal peace. She was strong in her faith, she came to the point she just wanted to go be with her Lord. She became weary of the waiting. Those who loved her will never forget her fight to get through the storm to Jesus.

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light, momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.

Prayer:

Hello Father, we praise Your holy name and thank You for loving us, for hearing our prayers and for the answers that come. Thank You for the gift that Sherry was to all of us. We know she is with You and we will meet again. And thank you for Paula who stepped in as only a sister can do and walked with her through the storm. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
