If My People

What makes us weep? Death, sorrow, grief, fear, uncertainty of life and security, sometimes anger. Those are given. We all know the tears these bring. When was the last time we wept over our city, our country, our world?

The Greek text tells us that the tears Jesus wept were not silent but were ἔκλαυσεν ἐπʼ α. He wept aloud. All the things that were going to happen to Him in just four days did not bring the weeping that He poured over Jerusalem from a hilltop that night.

He was looking at a city full of people who had many times rejected God, the one who brought them out of Egypt. Now they are rejecting the Son sent by the Father to save a lost world. He knew that the home of the temple of God would eventually come under Roman siege. Evil was about to arrive. The overcomer of evil was right there among them and yet they knew Him not.

Thought For Today:
Reading this passage I can’t help wondering if there is weeping over our land, our cities, our mountains our homeland so blessed for so many years, but now under a siege of its own. Once, the foundation of, “In God We Trust.” I guess the real question is not if God is weeping over us as Jesus wept over Jerusalem. Rather, are we His children, His representatives on earth…are we weeping at what we see?

Scripture For Today:
Luke 19:41
41 But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep.(NLT)

II Chronicles 7:14
14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 15 My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place. 16 For I have chosen this Temple and set it apart to be holy—a place where my name will be honored forever. I will always watch over it, for it is dear to my heart. (NLT)

Prayer For Today:

Hello Father! I know we surely have broken Your heart. Things are not going for us as You planned them. This culture we see all around us is not what You desire for us. We have allowed things that are bad seep into our society. There is rejection of Your beloved Son in all parts of the world. We pray that believers the world over would weep out loud at what we see. Turn from our own sins and pray for forgiveness that You will heal our land. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
