What harm can come from doing what is good? Stands to reason that following good things will not bring us into harms way. But Peter reminds us that it is possible that we could suffer and yet be blessed. Certainly, the disciples followed good. Even so, they were persecuted, imprisoned, and eventually martyred. We are to consecrate our hearts to God. Set our hearts apart to follow good. People will notice something different. We need to be prepared to explain where our hope comes from. Without arrogance, give the truths that we know. Our message could be defamed, criticized and perhaps mocked. However, our conscience is clear. God desires, that if suffering comes, it comes because we are doing good and not evil. Suffering came to Jesus. He was doing good and yet He was required to suffer for righteousness sake. We can be prepared to take our place on the side of good even though we may suffer for Christ’s sake.
Thought For Today:
Do we live and act in a way that causes curiosity? The question may come. What is it that enables you to be happy in the face of sorrow, difficult days, days of financial lack or sickness? If that question comes to you, then you are giving off an aura of hope in a seemingly hopeless situation. The opportunity to witness about Jesus and the hope that comes from knowing Him, becomes possible. We are to be brave and not afraid of revealing our personal experience with Jesus.
Scripture For Today:
1 Peter 3:13-17
13 And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. (NKJV)
Prayer For Today:
Hello Father! We need bravery. Prepare us to share the hope we have in Christ when and wherever the opportunity presents. We praise You for the hope we have in Christ. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name.
