Have you ever caught yourself scurrying around trying to be all things to all people? Your family needs you, your employer needs you…run here, race there…problems to deal with…think, think, think…do, do, do?
Terrible situation to be in. Suddenly the world is dictating our schedule. Seems impossible to correct doesn’t it? Take heart! God has provided us with help. We just need to make an appointment to meet Him.
All through the gospel scriptures we see the phrase “Jesus knew what they were thinking, or Jesus knew their thoughts”(Luke 5:22, Matthew 9:4, Matthew 12:25). So, Jesus most likely knew before He got to Mary and Martha’s house, that Martha was racing around trying to prepare a hospitable environment for her special guest. Her desire was to make sure that the guest of honor would find a visit to her home memorable and that He would leave with a full stomach. We often do that. We invite guests for dinner and get so caught up in the preparation that we miss all the blessing that comes from sitting down and visiting? He was prepared. Don’t you imagine that He would have been happy with less preparation, a dish of mac n cheese and both sisters at His feet seeking the food for a life in eternity? Our earthly “service” will be over one day…but time with Jesus is eternal business.
Thought For Today:
When we set aside a Hello Father time, we are sitting at the feet of Jesus like Mary. He has our full, hopefully rested attention. I have found that early morning is best for me. You may find a time better for you during your day. Our study time and prayers prepare us for whatever comes our way. He feeds us through His word and we turn that into our worship and praise time to Him.
Whatever time you choose…schedule special time with Jesus. It is your time to express to Him the needs you have, the worries and fears that concern you, and to worship and praise Him for all He has done and all He is going to do for you! Read a passage of scripture, journal your encounter with Jesus and then pray to the one who loves you like no other. See if your day is less hectic and more productive.
Scripture For Today:
Luke 10:41
41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (NKJV)
Prayer For Today:
Hello Father! Thank You for these two sisters. They were so different in personality and yet both wanted to serve Jesus. We pray for peace and calm in the day ahead. We pray for a few moments of uninterrupted counsel with our Lord. We have many hours ahead to serve others, we pray for time to worship You. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
