We all know trouble. Sooner or later it visits each of us. We can try to make our way through it alone, on our own power. That never worked for me. I needed divine intervention that my belief in Christ introduced me to. God has provided us a refuge to put space between our fears, danger and difficulties and dwell with Him.
While there, we have access to His ear. He is always listening to our prayers, tears and occasionally our outbursts of anger when the pressure builds. His wisdom and love are always available for the taking, in our relationship with Him.
He provides protection in the shadow. My first thought is of the mother bird and how she protects her babies under her wings. I also think of those wandering in the deserts of the Middle East. God led His people out of Egypt to wander for forty years. It was a hot, dry, parched land of basically dirt and rocks. Ever so often the weary desert traveler would find rest in the shadow of a rock or lonely tree.
We become weary from the uncertainty of the days ahead, the problems that seem to have no solutions, broken relationships, illness, financial difficulties, death and sorrow…seemingly no relief in sight. We find ourselves drained from the pressure. Then we see it afar. The shadow of the rock, the shade of a tree. We are welcome there. We can rest, safely with the Father.
I have sought the shadow, the shade, the safety. I know most of you have too. You remember it when you find it. The peace and clarity come in the midst of our situation as we work through it with our Father in heaven. You learn not to simply visit but abide there daily. When trouble comes He and His safety are just a breath away.
Scripture For Today:
Psalm 91:1
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”
Prayer For Today:
Hello Father! Oh to dwell with you! To abide in the shadow of the rock with you daily. That is our prayer today! When we become weary travelers through the desert wanderings of our lives, let us seek refuge with You. Walk with us to the shade and safety only You can provide. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
