Without feet that stand firm the body will fall. The believer must have legs and feet protected from the fiery darts just as the upper body. The warrior cannot defend, whose feet and legs are not standing firm. The soldiers were shod with sandals that had nails protruding from the bottom to penetrate into the ground, stabilizing their stance. Their legs were covered with greaves to protect the tibia of the leg.
What does it mean to be shod with the gospel of peace? Isn’t it a true statement that the body and mind saturated with the gospel of Jesus Christ, has no room for the things of the world to penetrate? The vessel is full. The peace that comes from the knowledge of who Jesus is, what He said, what He did, what He promised to those who believe in Him…fills us up as vessels of Christ.
He told us he would set our feet upon a rock. That is our firm foothold. Now we who stand on that rock must continually fuel our bodies with His word.
Psalm 27:5
5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. (NKJV)
What does all the above do for us? The one who is standing on secure ground and covered in the blood of Jesus, full of His word, is in a continuous defensive mode. Defence from what? From any person or devil that may come against us. If we don’t have a need for armor or to be ever in a mode of defence then there is something wrong. The enemy does not bother the one who belongs to him. He only comes after those whose faith is in Christ. It is those he attacks trying to break. He uses the “fiery darts” of temptation and trouble. His goal? Make us weary and in turmoil every hour, minute and second of the day.
Thought For Today:
Be ever ready. Reading our Bibles daily is a must. That is where our peace comes from. Knowing what we believe and who we belong to, gives us the ability to stand firm when the storms come against us. I like to read a few scriptures everyday to keep me still and peaceful when the world around me seems to be in chaos. Pick a verse you especially hold dear and meditate on it. Memorize the verse or a phrase or two. It will keep your mind focused on truth. Such as this favorite of mine:
2 Chronicles 20:17
17 You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you.” (NKJV)
Simply meditate on a couple of phrases, proclaiming the promise to you: “the battle is not mine for the Lord is with me.” Speaking it out throughout the day is an affirmation of who is with me and keeps my mind peaceful and at rest no matter the battle that comes against me during my day.
Scripture For Today:
Ephesians 6:15
15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (NKJV)keeps us hydrated
Prayer For Today:
Hello Father! Thank You for Jesus! Thank You for Your word and the rock you have set us on. Like drinking water daily hydrates our body, we pray that meditating on Your word daily hydrates our spiritual soul. Though storms and battles come against us we know You are in control. We are standing on the rock with our armor in place. We will defend against the things that wish to beat us down. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Thank You for your kind words. Your response found its way into my spam folder. There shoukd be a contact form right below each post.
