Words are so important. We use them in conversation every day. We give and receive an abundance of them from the time we rise until we retire in rest. Choosing our words is so important. We can set the tone in a conversation with the words we choose and the way in which we deliver them. Scripture references honey in describing words that sweeten the soul and brings health to our bones.
I, like you have known people in my life that could calm me by just hearing their voice and the kindness with which their words were spoken. Haven’t we also come in contact with those whose words were harsh and spoken without an ounce of care in them? When coupled with a scowling face the encounter can ruin any good day.
My eyes fell on Proverbs 16:24 this morning. Honey soothes a lot of things. It comes from the nectar of beautiful flowers and is delivered to the honeycomb by very busy bees. God intends us to be busy with the delivery of our words in the same way. Beautifully spoken words to be soothing to the hearers. What I get from the scriptures today is that we should pray for a voice like Jesus. Choosing each word to adequately get our message across and yet deliver it with kindness, patience and love.
How we speak to all of the people we come in contact with each day should be special. What could we convey with the right words and delivery? We can express gratitude for a service provided, for assistance given, for help in a dire situation as well as thankfulness when speaking with our own family members. Often times we lash out in our exasperation of the situation we find ourselves. That no doubt has affected the one who received it and any who overheard it. We have in essence delivered our testimony.
So, let us go out with joy, peace, gratitude, love and understanding pouring forth in our words like honey, so that when we walk away we have left a blessing and not a curse.

Prayer for Today:
Hello Father! Your word beautifully tells us how to use our gift of speech! Father, let us go out into the world with kindness and love in our words. We pray that we never leave a testimony of abrasive, harsh and unkind words behind us. May our words always be a testimony to your love, patience and long suffering that you have for us, your children. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
