We have our military men and women on our minds right now. We treasure them. They are true heroes. They suffer hardship and face danger daily. They train rigorously. They study their enemy. They are disciplined and do not become entangled with things that will take their mind off the battlefield, they train for.
Timothy compares the believer in Christ to a soldier. We are to practice prayerful discipline and keep from becoming distracted by what does not strengthen us or turns our focus from the task at hand. We are engaged in a struggle between good and evil. God reveals the character and mode of operation of our enemy from Genesis all the way through Revelation where he will finally meet his match. God wins!!
Suffering hardship is nothing new for the believers in Christ. We have a great cloud of witnesses who walked this way before us. When we face the battlefield, we may suffer. But as those who fought the battles before us, it will be worth it all, if one soul finds Christ because of our struggle, our battles , our victory.
Stand firm, train with the discipline of a soldier, pray and be vigilant. Put on your armor. Don’t leave home without it.
~Scripture For Today~
2 Timothy 2:3-4
4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. (NASB)
~Prayer For Today~
Hello Father! We approach the day as soldiers on the battlefield earth. We pray for discipline to be prepared each day for whatever our enemy has planned. We are no different than those warriors who walked before us. Suffering may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning. Give us the strength and boldness to run the race. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
