The Doorkeeper

To be a doorkeeper for the courts of God is to be desired more than the highest place a world without God could offer. To stand at the door of God’s courts is to get a glimpse of Jesus. In the quiet of the early morning as you study God’s word is to be at the doors of heaven, looking in. Learning about the goodness that lies behind those magnificent doors.

I broke my collarbone in 1955. I was six years old. I recall standing with my mother and grandfather before the two huge wooden doors of the Loretta Heights Hospital in Dalhart, Texas. It was dark and way after hours. There was a very low light hanging over the biggest doors I had ever seen. Grandad rang the bell. Slowly the two doors opened. There stood one of the Sisters Of Loretta Heights who ran the hospital. I was in awe of those huge wooden doors and a bit frightened at the same time. Help came quickly from inside those doors.

~Thought For Today~

To be the doorkeeper is considered by most, as a menial task. Not as desirable as other employment. However, the person who keeps at the door gets a glimpse of the world inside. They know what has entered in. They are privy to the celebrity inside. The threshold is like the heartbeat of the courts. The doors swing open and shut all day. Each opening reveals more of the mystery inside.

Just to stand and open the doors of the House of God and glimpse the beauty within is enough to keep us there on the threshold. To know that Jesus is there within, keeps us at the door, waiting for a glimpse of our Savior.

Whatever God has for us to do today, is a thousand times better than anything we could do for the wicked. Do it well. Do it as unto the Lord. We will bring honor and glory to Jesus and His place in our life. To read God’s word is to reveal what lies behind the doors to the courts of God.

~Scripture For Today~

Psalms 84:10

10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness. (NLT)

~Prayer For Today~

Hello Father! Thank You for this day. May we grow closer to You through this day than we were yesterday. Open our hearts to Your word. Remove any fears of the future from our minds. Keep us close to the gates of Your court today. Make us the head and not the tail with boldness for Christ. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’  name. Amen.
