I was talking to a dear friend last night. We spent many hours together daily for a number of years in my past. She became my friend while she was going through a divorce. A situation that knocked the wind out of her. She had to regroup and walk on without that person she planned to spend a lifetime with. She was devastated and felt failure overwhelm her. God walked her through those dark days and she eventually found the one that God placed in her life, after the storm had passed. As a footnote to a fun conversation and catching up, she mentioned that her first spouse had done some things that left her a bit stunned. Things she would not have approved of had they still been married. I have pondered over our conversation. I have many friends who have had the experience with divorce.
I told her that things happen to us that we have a hard time understanding. Why would God allow us to walk through that valley? Years down the road you look back It is then we see the why. We see that what the enemy meant to destroy us God turned to good. Prevented us from perhaps worse things. Was there a purpose for that relationship? She has two beautiful daughters. They are amazing women. They share the DNA of both their mother and their father. God’s gift to that relationship that was eventually broken was these precious daughters. Without that coupling they would be different from who they are.
As I have thought over this wonderful conversation with my friend, I realized that her season of pain, fear, loss, anger, bitterness and acceptance grew her spiritually. She can see the goodness of God’s ”revision” in her two daughters and in the wonderful man she is married to now. We often make mistakes because we are human. That started in the garden. The enemy there…Has not left our here and now. He often leads us to make a wrong choice. But our Father will take those choices and turn them to good. Show us the why and the blessings that all that pain brought forth.
Scripture
You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. Genesis 50:20 NLT
So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. 1 Peter 1:6-7 NLT
Prayer
Hello Father. Though we don’t always understand the reasons at the time of trials and brokenness…Eventually, Your purpose for us and those we love is revealed. The gentle push to move us through those difficult days is given with love so that your purpose in our lives might be clear. Thank You for Your love and guidance. In Jesus’ name. Amen
