When change comes we can become rattled, unsettled. Maybe even a bit uncomfortable and yes, even sad. Thinking about changes that we must make regarding people we care about, can steal our peace. Changes that we contemplate not only can steal our peace but our sleep as well.
There are different “changes.” Some are self imposed, for the purpose of following a dream or a goal in life. Some are imposed on us by others. That type of change can be difficult, as it was not our own thought initially. Likewise, sometimes we are required to make changes that effect others. Then there is the change that seems to come out of the blue, the one we make, based on a situation or an opportunity that presents itself. So what to do when change comes calling?
We PUSH! Pray Until Something Happens. That is the best advice ever given to me.
I, like most of you, have experienced each type of change. Tonight I am thinking about the change that is God inspired. The one that is replayed over and over in your head. There it is in front of you. Change! Do I? You say, “No way! That is not gonna happen!” Then God just packs you up, picks you up, and walks you out the door. Now those changes are priceless. Even though you were a bit hesitant? Those prayers that were being prayed? We need to be prepared for the answers when they come. They often come in unexpected ways.
We pray for a better job, a better car, a better home…and on it goes. In faith we begin to pray for the “betters” we desire or relief from a situation that seems to be drawing the life from us. As believers, we pray and then step out on faith when the prayer opens doors or opportunities or provides exits. By the way. Some exits can be very painful. Occasionally, God has to “encourage” us to let go with a little help from folks. That may be the only way we will let go and walk out the door to the next opportunity God has for us.
Abraham and his family lived in a very wealthy city called Ur of Chaldees. He was 75 years old when He and God had a little visit and basically God told him to pack up the family and start down the road to Egypt. He would travel a new road leaving behind the old way of life. He was going somewhere he had never been before.
Ur was a city full of worshippers of the moon, sun, and stars. It was an evil, sinful place. God had different plans for Abraham. He would obey God and set his feet to travel the new road. The winds of change were blowing. At ninety-nine years of age God made a covenant with him that began an amazing relationship. All possible, because he accepted the challenge of change.
Thought For Today:
Abraham packed up his family and belongings and trusted God with the road. They left the wealthy, happening city of Ur and the evil worship of idols and started walking to Egypt. Do you wonder if he ever sat in the dark at night and asked himself if he had done the right thing, made the right choice? There were hardships, a few sqirmishes along the way. But, knowing what we know about Abraham, his faith was so strong in Almighty God that he would do exactly as he was directed. And God blessed Him.
When those opportunities come, either to “escape” a difficult situation, or begin a new experience, the key to success is the answer to one little question. Did you pray? If you did, fervently, God will set your feet to the path He has prepared for you. Grab that jacket, pack that box and head to the next place God is going to plant you and then bloom away.
If you are required to be the vehicle of change and fervent prayer has been offered, then God is the power behind those decisions as well. Change that effects the lives of others is very difficult to carry out but when prayer is involved, God will take care of all sides.
That change you were praying for? It just might be God’s answer to someone else’s prayer. What an amazing God we serve! Talk to Him, trust Him with all the changes in your life. Then get up and walk with Him.
Scripture For Today:
Hebrews 11:8
8 By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. (NASB)
Hebrews 11:6
6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. (NASB)
Joshua 1:9
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (NASB)
Prayer For Today:
Hello Father! Thank You for those old roads we left behind. There is purpose in all experiences for Your children. We thank You for the new roads ahead and for the opportunities to serve You. Let our testimony attest to Your faithfulness in leading us and of the power of prayer. We pray Your favor on all travelers on the road of life. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
