Evil cannot close the doors of God’s house. Most of us have watched, read or heard how evil came to the door of a beautiful place, a place of light. Evil entered and was welcomed at the table. Evil heard discussion of Scripture and prayer and then stood up and tried to quench the light of the children of God who had welcomed him.
Don’t we have a better understanding of evil today than we did last Wednesday morning? It has been a long while since evil walked into a church. Evil will go anywhere in his desire to destroy. We understand that now.
Evil tried to extinguish the light of the godly men and women seated around the table. I say try, because evil failed. Instead of the smoldering smoke of a fire gone out and darkness, light came forth. It came forth from those touched horrifically by the results of evil’s work. Their voices came forth victorious in forgiveness. What evil intended to be the end of light was turned into victory with prayer circles everywhere. God’s children grabbed hold of each other and prayed in the streets. They didn’t look at the color of the hands they held, that did not matter. They became one in their belief in Christ. They threw off the baskets and let their lights shine. They opened the doors of their beautiful house of God the following Sunday, a shepherd stepped to the pulpit and informed evil it would not prosper.
~Thought For Today~
The children of the living God have been hiding. We have been letting just enough light shine out from under our baskets, to cast a very weak light. But, it is time to come out, speak up, let our light shine. Put forth a beacon of light! We are to be the salt of the earth and the light. We can be neither if we don’t step up to the front lines of the battlefield. We will not be divided. One perfect reason. It doesn’t matter what colors we are, we are brothers and sisters in Christ. Our champion is Jesus Christ. He will defeat evil, when the time arrives. Until then, He has empowered us with the wisdom, faith and hope that salvation through His blood brings, to each believer. Time to become armor protected, pick up our crosses and let our lights shine.
~Scripture For Today~
Matthew 5:14-16
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.(NASB)
Romans 12:9-13
9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. (NASB)
John 8:12
12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (NASB)
~Prayer For Today~
Hello Father! We are still spinning by the realization that evil will seek the light where it shines the brightest and attempt to snuff it out. We pray for courage. We pray for the courage of Stephen, Peter, John and all who have gone before us. Teaching about the love of Christ. Shining our lights in the darkest of places. Forgive us for being complacent, too quite when challanged. We pray for the light to sweep across our land. Our Father in heaven, hear our prayers, give us courage and the will to keep in the race to the finish. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
