Treasure Of The Heart

image

Our words carry what is in our heart. We let those around us know who we truly are by the words we speak.

Haven’t we all been around a negative person? The glass is always half empty, the job is always lacking, the friendship isn’t fulfilling, the money is never enough. God is not listening. I feel sickness coming. I will never lose weight. I am not organized. My life is in a mess. The sun is not going to shine today, for me.

We are what we speak. If we speak defeat, we are going to experience defeat.

When God spoke, darkness became light. The seas formed around the land. Vegetation grew and the stars scattered across the heavens. All, of the spoken words of our Holy God were treasures of goodness and created good things. His words could also bring lightening, hail, and open the ground in the face of disobedience.

We speak either life or death into our everyday world. Either success or failure, health or sickness.

~Thought For Today~

We may not “feel” like things are going well. That is exactly what the enemy hopes for. He desires that our words will express his desire for us,  rather than God’s. God desires life for us. Speaking good into our life and the lives of our children and grandchildren will give them courage to meet adversity. It not only lifts our own spirit but the spirit of those around us.

My precious grandmother lived to be ninety-five years old. She was a very strong, independent person. She left you with no doubt of her faith. She spoke uplifting words to her children and grandchildren. Always the encourager. But she had a limit to her patience with doomsayers. For years she greeted her dear friend on Sunday mornings. “Good morning Goldie, how are you?” Apparently, Goldie would begin a long reply of what might happen, all the negative a person could imagine, even though she was standing in God’s house. After years of listening, grandmother, in her mid eighties,  finally gave Goldie some advice. “Goldie, how are you,  is a greeting, not a request to learn all the negative you forecast for your life. Be positive. Speak hope not doom.” Well, I was not told what Goldie’s response was other than I know they remained friends until death.

We are going to have days with problems. Days when we just cannot imagine we can take another step. It is then we speak the blessings that we found hidden in our day. They are there. We may have to think for a few minutes but they will surface. We can find the seeds of heart treasures in our Bible. Today is a new day. It will be a good day, because God and His Son Jesus are here with us. In fact they have already gone before us, clearing a path for us to walk through our day.

~Scripture For Today~

Matthew 12:35-37

35  The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil. 36  But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. 37  For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (NASB)

Genesis 1:3

3  Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. (NASB)

John 10:10

10  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (NASB)

~Prayer For Today~

Hello Father! We pray that our words and greetings, speak the treasure that is in our heart. We want to reflect the love, forgiveness and hope that our relationship with Christ gives us. We pray for thought before we speak. How will our words influence the one who hears? Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
