It has taken a few months to settle into the idea that my home has become my sole place of employment. I began working at the age of sixteen. Forty-nine years later I was able to lay the mantle down. It wasn’t an easy decision but it was an answer to prayer. I can see that clearly now. The decision to stop working for someone else and come home, provided a new experience. I now have time to stop and “smell the roses.”
I felt a bit lost the first few weeks and grieved the loss of my work family but that has been replaced with overwhelming excitement about all the things I am able to do that were on the back burner for close to fifty years.
Every task we do on a daily basis, either in a workplace, our homes, or church is worthy of praise. There are a multitude of tasks involved in keeping our days running smoothly. Not one of them is considered menial by our Heavenly Father.
As, you go about your day, whether you leave your home to work, are a stay at home mom or retired, do the work of your day as unto the Lord!
Scripture for Today:
Colossians 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. (KJV)
Prayer for Today:
Hello Father! Thank you that nothing we do is menial in your eyes. Everything is of value when we do it as unto you, our Lord. Go with us this day and if need be, remind us that what our hands and minds are doing is important to you, even though it may not be acknowledged by anyone else. You see and bless it all. Let what we do, bring you glory. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
I never dreamed that your retirement would mean so much to me! I watched you wear yourself down to a nub, always smiling, never complaining. I knew it was costing you; I had no idea how much!
Your retirement has been a gift to me, a chance to enjoy your company in ways we never had a chance to before. Sharing the Bible study has become the high point in my week. The lunches and movies are like icing on the cake–to borrow a phrase.
I love you and I look forward to Wednesdays!
Ruby,
I see such a gift from God. He knew that I was going to need a “sister” on this earth to cleave to when He took Renetta and Pam home. You have been my sister-in-law for forty-seven years but have officially stepped in as “my sister, from another mother.” You are such a blessing!
I agree that Bible study together is remarkable. But it is the lunches after to talk and laugh…just be girls together and the movies… Indeed, the icing on the cake.
