Walking And Waiting…Together

Monday is here. What a great weekend we had. A time set aside to honor our mothers. A busy time with things to think about and celebration ideas to put into reality. Now it is time to settle back into our weekly routines.

I took time for what was to be a thirty minute “power” nap yesterday and two hours later I came to! I did not realize that I was going to need that kind of rest. We get tired and a bit weary when our schedules change. Have you ever wondered if God gets tired?

I would think with His eyes on everything, including the sparrows, that He would be exhausted following everyone around. He watches the leaders of the world toil and ponder, some bring peace and others threaten wars. He watches families struggle, fret and worry. He celebrates with us in our victories. He is bombarded second by second with prayers of thanksgiving, praise, requests for help and the one that is surely draining.  Spiritual warfare prayers. Battle prayers. Right now it seems we are all lifting prayers of battle for all the storms across the country. Prayers of thankfulness for the rains while at the same time prayers of protection from the devastation that often accompanies the rain.

If our schedule looked like that we would be in serious trouble. We couldn’t do it. That is why, He is God and we are not.  He does not grow weary. He does not need naps to recover from a tough day. To the contrary, He is our strength. His word says that our power does not come from anything we can do. It comes from God. Even the youngest among us will become tired and weary, and will falter.

All of those who wait for the Lord will gain strength. They will soar up as high as the eagles over the turbulent storms. They will run the race set before them and not become tired. They will walk and not be overcome by weariness.

~Thought For Today~

The keyword in our scripture is WAIT. Those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength. We become tired and weary when we get ahead of our God. We work hard at making things happen and yet our plans falter because we run ahead of His will.  Waiting is not something any of us do well.

Our lives can be similar to a young child running ahead of a parent. They jump and bounce around like bunnies. They waste vast amounts of energy. They can run all they want, jump and leap and squeal in this new adventure they are chasing. The fact is, when they get to the door…They find themselves waiting for someone big and strong to open the door. Their strength and stature is not great enough to push through.

Don’t we do that? We have doors that must be opened in life. Big doors! Employment doors. Financial doors. Relationship doors. Forgiveness doors. Health doors. We seek solutions. Dreams and resolutions that are yet realized. Just ahead of us. Exciting business ventures or worrisome issues that must be resolved, for peace to be restored. We toil in our own strength.

Rather than wait on our Lord and walk with Him, we strike out on our own. We forget to pray earnestly before we reach the doors of decision. We have all the details figured out. We have this! Then we realize that we got too far ahead. Tried to open doors that were not ready for us to go through. We are tired and weary from the struggle. I wonder if God ever thinks, “Finally, you have stopped trying to open the doors by yourself. Rest, I am working this all out and when it is time, I will open doors you have never dreamed of! For now, take my hand and lets walk together.”

~Scripture For Today~

Isaiah 40:28-31

28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. 29 He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. 30 Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, 31 Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. ~Prayer For Today~

Hello Father! We pray that we stop running ahead of Your will. Our desire is to spend quality time with You, talking in prayer time about our concerns and the doors we need to walk through. You will prepare the doors in our lives to be opened in Your time and not ours. We ask that You give us strength and peace for the waiting times. We take Your hand now and walk closely at Your side, as Your will is revealed to us. Thank You that You hear our prayers. Forgive us of our sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
