“Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.”
Abraham Lincoln
Those are words of wisdom. Somewhere along life’s path we receive God’s unmerited favor. His grace. Blessing comes in a season of success that is unbroken by difficulty. It is really quite easy to start thinking we created that blessing. We are just pretty smart and talented! Pretty soon we forget all about the God of the Universe and His Son.
We truly are nothing without His grace. We can do nothing without Him. All power originates with Him. All of our “smarts” cannot create the grace that poured from Mt. Calvary. To attain it is so simple that the process baffles wise men.
God, is our Father in heaven. If we don’t believe that…really no point to go further. We lost everything when our first parents disobeyed the instructions. Out the gate they went. Evil was now a part of each day. Sickness, death, destruction, wars, and disasters became a part of life. How to save us? Send a gift. Send grace wrapped up in the heart of a baby. He would grow to manhood. He would speak lovingly about His Father in heaven. About forgiveness and mercy. He was grace walking. The part that seems hard? In order to receive the gift of grace, mercy and eternal life we have to believe in the One who came to earth to deliver it. The gift from our heavenly Father is not ours unless we believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah. That He died to redeem those who would believe.
