There are many people speaking to us daily, in one form or another. Their words sound knowledgeable. James tells us about a wisdom worth seeking. Test whether the wisdom in every conversation and every written word we read has originated from above. Be careful, of a wisdom that comes from below. It is as important, if not more so, that we reflect the attributes of wisdom God desires to see in His children.
It is pure without a sinful motive or purpose. It is peaceable, free of conflict and argument. It is gentle. Not weak, but moderate, calm and tender. Willing to yield with consideration to good counsel from others. Wisdom from above is full of mercy. Tender-hearted to the hardships and difficulties of others. The same mercy that God extends to us. A compassionate spirit full of grace. Wisdom from above produces good fruit. Outward evidence of a heart for Jesus.
This godly wisdom is extended in the spirit of fairness and justice when dealing with others. Treating everyone in a fair way. No hypocrisy. Behavior matching our words. A desire to interact with people in a godly way, bearing the fruit of the righteousness of Christ, sown in peace from within us.
Thought For Today:
When we walk away from an encounter, what do we want to leave? What if we leave a remnant of the love of Christ? A sweet, pure, holy fragrance. A worthy goal to strive for.
Scripture For Today:
James 3:17
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. (NKJV)
Prayer For Today:
Hello Father! We are subject to advice and conversation everyday. Give us the spirit of discernment to assure we keep and speak only wisdom from above. We pray that we are wise walkers of peace, gentle in spirit, willing to listen, extending mercy and fairness, free of hypocrisy and bearing good fruit. Forgive us of our sin. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
