Ever go over and over in your mind what you are gonna say to someone who has hurt, offended, or otherwise wounded you?
We often let our mouth get ahead of God because we have been “meditating” on our words, our thoughts, our resolution rather than waiting for God to place the words, thoughts and His resolution at our disposal. We have jumped ahead of wisdom and let hurt speak first. That gives our devouring enemy the opportunity to jump in the middle of the battle and make things worse.
God asks that we wait on him. Not pre-plan our words. Don’t mull over what to say but be still and let Him place wisdom and His response in our mind and mouth. It may take time. It may take patience. But, it will save misunderstanding and worsening the situation.
Scripture
Settle it therefore in your minds not to meditate beforehand how to answer, for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. Luke 21:14-15 ESV
Prayer
Hello Father! Thank You for Your wise advice to be still and wait on You. Let Your words come forth with wisdom and not anger. Waiting is hard to do. Help us slow down and listen for Your whispers of advice. Forgive us when we jump ahead of Your will for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
