Worry Not

Quiet of the Stream

A person would need to be in the middle of a wilderness not to know that we live in difficult times. The past weeks and days seems so perilous, causing fear. I, like many of you can get caught up with all that is going on. Most of which, I cannot do anything to change. I, sadly have often caught myself talking back to the news channel on my television. That is indeed being “caught” up by the world. God must surely roll his eyes when I do that.

But wait! As believers, is it really true that we cannot change things? Can we not do anything to change the times we live in? Perhaps, we can never change the violence and behaviors of people we will never have an opportunity to influence. But, we can PRAY!

God knew when the serpent entered the garden that our days were numbered in paradise. Surely, it saddened Him to put us out into a world that would bring death, illness, worry, fear…All things that he tried to prevent us from experiencing. But, that free will came into play. It was used then in that beautiful place and is still being exercised at this very minute, in the world in which we all live.

I try to find a moment during my day to sit with my Bible and study God’s word. It refreshes my mind and I am reminded that God has control. He knows what we are dealing with daily in this world. He wants to hear from His children from moment to moment. He desires to hear our prayers. Journaling our prayers is also an excellent way to express our needs and frustrations with all that is going on around us. So, pray, pray, pray and pray some more!!! That is our best defense in this day for all situations but most assuredly for those we have no control over.

Scripture for Today:

Phil 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

Prov 12:25 “Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.”

Matt 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”

Prayer for Today:
Hello Father! It is easy for us to get caught up in the “news” of the day. Soon we are filled with anxiety, fear and worry over things that we have no control over. We know that you are in control of the lives of believers and this world. Your word tells us that the battle is yours. Father, help us to turn the details of our world over to you and find peace in your word. Let us be still and listen. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
