You and the Battlefield

The battlefield was created the day Adam and Eve decided to listen to the lies of the enemy instead of obeying God. In that moment trials and sorrow were born.

I know that some of you reading this are on or approaching the battlefields life brings. One of the things we share as believers is that we are either gonna be fine or finer. As believers we are either here or we are with the Father.

Life is like a battlefield. No matter how hard you try, you are going to have problems in this life. They can be financial, illness, death, broken relationships, workplace stress. Spend six hours in an emergency room and you will have a good understanding of what you are up against.

You start out slowly making your way from birth. The goal is to make it across the span of your life and reach the other side, That would be heaven. That would be God’s place. The place Jesus went to prepare many mansions. The place where life is eternal. Where sickness and death are a thing of the past. Where youthfulness returns. No tears. No grief. No worry. No fear.

The enemy on your battlefield, was also God’s enemy. He was Adam and Eve’s enemy. He has been the enemy of mankind ever since that moment of disobedience in the garden. It all started there. He is the reason that evil abounds, that death exists, that murders happen, that terrorists exist. His goal is to destroy. Jesus came to win the victory against him. so all who believe in Him will too. But, as Jesus had to make His journey through difficulties, so will you and I.

You start across that field of battle with your weapons. They are the Armor of God and Prayer. Valuable weapons against the one who comes against God’s children. You start marching across. Sometimes, you drop to your knees, so weary and overcome. You are emboldened by not only your own prayers, but the many prayers of the faithful who intercede on your behalf. Darts, bullets, bombs and missiles come at you from every direction. You know better than I what weapons are being used against you. You identify the enemy. You straighten your armor and you rise with your shield of faith, your sword of truth which is God’s word, in hand. You begin your journey of life. You may experience periods of time when all is well. Then you must gird up again. You cannot ever meet the day without your armor on.

The point to continuing? God has a victory celebration waiting on the other side. He is cheering you on to stand fast. To read and hold His word in your heart. Obey Him in the way you live and treat others. The most important weapon you have? Why that would be Jesus. You see, He has been on a battlefied too. He was hunted, hated, ridiculed, beaten, and crucified. He died and shed His blood so that mankind in all of its sin, could find victory on the other side of their own fields of battle.

Peter was in a boat. He was terrified. Jesus called to him to come to Him. Scripture says he climbed out of the boat and began walking on water to Jesus. When Peter took his eyes off of Jesus he began to sink. Eyes on Jesus keeps you marching across your own field of battle. Keeping God’s word ever ready to speak at your enemy. You were never promised this life would be easy. In fact, you have been warned it would be the opposite. At the same time throughout scripture, you are comforted with the salvation Christ brings. When Jesus is your Savior and Lord you also receive the presence of the Holy Spirit to guide, comfort and intercede when you have no words. Your Father is in heaven. He loves you and desires that you spend eternity with Him.

That, is what keeps believers walking forward. The promise that we will see the ones we have lost on the way across our fields of battle. Be encouraged in your trials. Stand firm when the giants come against you. Cast the mountains from before you as you march across. There will be times to rest and recover. You will look back and declare, it is You sweet Jesus who goes before me to fight my giants and bring me to victory.

33 I have told you all this so you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. (NLT)

Prayer For Today

Hello Father! There are battles going on in the lives of so many dear ones today. We ask that you send Your angels and spirit to gird them up for the days ahead. We pray that we do not draw faint in the battle but stand firm, covered with your armor and bolstered by the prayers of the faithful. We ask these things in the name of Jesus. Amen.

  1. Thank you Kate. 6 hours in ER is bad enough. Try 10 days in Itensive Care with a love one as they spend their final hours on this earth.
